Choosing the Right Paloma for You
It's a bit like welcoming Christopher Columbus back from the New World. A new age has dawned. The world is not flat. How to come to grips with this new reality?
In the Paloma world, there are two key questions:
What size is my system? |
Am I Digital, or am I Legacy?
Sizing your Paloma
In a Tank world, you worried about water in the tank turning cold. Once that happened, you were cooling your heels for quite a while before you could use the hot water again.
In a Paloma world, the trick is to choose the solution that will support the peak simultaneous demand on the system. If you get this right, you will never, ever run out of hot water.
Since in most households, Peak Demand occurs at shower time, ask yourself these simple questions:
How many showers do we take at once? |
Do we do any other hot water activities like wash the dishes or the laundry at the same time?
At 2.5 gallons per minute (GPM) for a standard shower, 3.0 GPM to fill the bath, and 1.5 GPM for most other activities, calculate your total demand. Then see which of the Paloma systems will support that demand in the middle of winter.
Throughout our product section, we have given an indication of the number of Simultaneous Winter Showers supported by each solution. We assume 40-degree incoming water for the North, and 60-degree water in the Sunbelt, in all calculations here. A "shower," in this case, is 2.5 gallons of water per minute, delivered constantly at 104 degrees.
Digital or Legacy?
You are Digital if you want any of the following:
But you may be Legacy if . . .
Take a look at the following Product Selector and review the information on the solutions that seem right for you. Then call our Consumer Advisor for help with an exact match.

"Simultaneous Winter Showers" indicates the number of showers that can be fed at once at the coldest time of the year. It assumes 60 degree F inlet water in the Sunbelt, and 40 degrees F in the North. To achieve the given Bath Fill performance for Legacy Tankless models, it will be necessary to heat incoming water 90 degrees F and then mix with cold water. |
